Visit to the Crocodile Hunters home!

So we got an email from an old flatmate saying that she had caught up with another old flatmate who said we were now married (correct) and had a cute kid (incorrect). I figure that one of them had seen our website and assumed that our nieces were our own! So to those who don't know we have been staying with Michelle's sister and her hubby and THEIR 2 kids Briar and Trixie.

It has been almost a year since Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter passed away and we finally went to visit his Australia Zoo. Enjoy the pics!

Ben and Trixie with Steve.

Michelle with Steve.

Dave with Steve's 4wd.

The touching tribute to Steve. Many Queenslanders gave flowers and wrote on khaki shirts.

The man himself.

In the Crocoseum.

Crocodile called Monty.

At this Wildlife Warriors snake, birds, and croc live show Dave volunteered to get a bird to land on him and had to make same loud noises and actions, he was great, but the joke was on him as a bunch of doves were released. However he received a large photo of Steve with a croc for his displays! Thats going straight to the pool room.

Briar above and me below on a replica of an actual croc, it was huge, can't remember its name.

Beautiful Cassawari.

This snake was massive, the biggest in Australia, something like 7m long???

Komodo dragon, largest lizard in world, as big as a croc.

Playful Otters, Michelle loves these creatures.

Michelles fave animal ever, the tiger. This is a Sumatran tiger, apparently there is only 350 left of this variety and the Caspian and some other breeds have been wiped out already. Theres about 2500 left in India and China farms them but not for conservation.

Trixie with her new sunnies.

Skippy.

Spot the babe.

Wombats are truly beautiful, but fur is coarse, and they are said to have skulls of concrete, hence they can do a lot of damage to your car if you accidently hit one.

Snakes are truly beautiful and fascinating creatures. Australia is home to the 10 most deadly.

This how we felt after a day at Australia Zoo.
We were very impressed with how the animals were not in cages but had large spacious enclosures, and how the focus was on education and conservation. Sadly a lot of zoos that I have seen look like animal prisons but not this one.
